The Washington Post : reported that MLB trade deadline is more hype than help for many teams. Just look at the Braves.
The Braves are a convenient case study in why the trade deadline is more hype than help for the majority of teams. July is baseball's Month of Reckoning, when teams are forced to make hard choices and big bets ahead of the July 31 nonwaiver trade deadline. And most importantly, their July 4 game against Houston launched a brutal stretch of 19 straight games against teams with a collective winning percentage of .650. The Braves, like many teams, appear to be waiting to see how they fare in July before deciding to be buyers or sellers at the end of the month. "Really, by the end of the month we'll know what we are," Braves Manager Brian Snitker said Thursday at Nationals Park, before the first of the Braves' four games there.
As the trade deadline nears, Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports is reporting that the Atlanta Braves 'could listen' to trade offers for starting pitcher Julio Teheran. The Braves are currently second in the NL East, but have little-to-no shot of catching the Nationals. According to Heyman, calls have already been made to the Braves about the right hander, and the team is listening to all offers. Would trading their best starting pitcher, who is still in his mid-twenties, make sense right now? The Braves also could just be doing their jobs and listening to what offers come their way, even if they aren't intent on trading him.

How salary dumps could bring fireworks to MLB trade deadline
Yet, as the major league baseball trade deadline approaches, did the Brooklyn Nets — of all franchises — provide an imaginative blueprint? The Nets, with salary cap room now, absorbed the bad money to gain access to the low-salary, high-ceiling possibility of Russell. He is also the type — think: Cody Bellinger, Corey Seager and Julio Urias — this Dodgers front office has refused to trade. Would the A's take on Jacoby Ellsbury from the Yankees to get a package headed by Clint Frazier for Sonny Gray and Sean Doolittle? That is like another acquisition for the Yankees in this deal (cleaning up for a future Paul George). This content may collect you by Max Nolan
